Telecommunications Technician Association of Ogun State (COMTEAN) has kicked against unlawful arrest of its members over stolen gadget.
The computer association through it newly elected chairman Comrade Adewole Ademuyiwa Timothy condemn the act of arresting its members for doing their daily work.
Adewole while speaking with newsmen shortly after been elected as Chairman to pilot the association for two years said it breaks his heart whenever he sees that phone and computer engineers are been arrested for unlocking any gadget ,on this note he vowed to put an end to it in his own tenure by liaising with security agencies to end illegal arrest of members over stolen gadgets.
Ademuyiwa defeated two contestants in an election of delegates from the 20local government of the state,he polled 18 votes to emerge the chairman of COMTEAN for the next two years.
The chairman, who lamented that unnecessary harassment and arrest of members over stolen mobile phones or computers was becoming unbearable, noted that they were only technicians whose job is to repairs gadgets and should not be held responsible for theft ones.
He appealed to the security agencies especially the police to perform their duties in line with the constitution of the country on its members adding that he had sought a lawyer to defend their members should any be arrested illegally or taken to court.
Ademuyiwa divulged that he was ready to work with his co-contestant, Adewale Adigun, who scored 12 votes and Babafemi Moses,who polled 10 in the election where 40 delegates from four division of the state – Egba, Remo, Yewa, and Ijebu, voted him in as the new chairman.
He also asked the members to cooperate with him in steering the affairs of COMTEAN for the next two years, hinting that he was ready to turn around things for better for the members and ensure the security of the lives and properties was guaranteed.
“The major challenges is security agencies. The police harassment, at times they will arrested all these people that stole phones or computers, we call it gadgets, but we our major work is to unlock the phone or computer and repair so they will arrest the culprits and still try to arrest the we the engineer again.”
“We are doing our work as a bonafide citizens of Nigeria which i believe that we have the legitimate right to operate our business. And i will liaise and have a good relationship with security agencies and have a solid lawyer on the ground, that will help us interprets our minds and our yearnings to the government” The chairman added.
