David Ogunseye of Abeokuta Golf Club has emerged as the overall Best Net of the Saburee Babajide Bakre 9th Agura of Gbagura Golf Kitty 2024.
Ogunseye, playing of Handicap 11, payed a gross score 82 and a net score of 71. He beat the runner up, B. Onwe playing of handicap 14, and gross score of 86 at the end of the Golf Kitty which took place at Abeokuta Golf Club, Okemosan, Ogun state, Nigeria on Saturday 15th June, 2024.
It was reported that the Oba Saburee Babajide Bakre (9th Agura of Gbagura) Memorial Golf Kitty was put in place by Abeokuta Golf Club as part of one year memorial for the late monarch, who, in his life time, was a golfer with a track record of positive contributions to the game of golf and humanity.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of event, the Chairman, Local Organizing Committee of the Golf Kitty and immediate pst Captain of the club, Bashorun Ladi Adegbite expressed profound satisfaction with the successful hosting of the memorial tournament. He noted that golfers from different parts of the country converged on Abeokuta to participate in the kitty simply because the late monarch still lives on in the hearts of those golfers.
Similarly, the Captain of Abeokuta Golf Club, Prof.Kola Adebayo affirmed that the turn out of no fewer than 120 golfers for the kitty during the festive season of Eid-el-kabir, speaks volumes of the degree of honour the late monarch commands among golfers within and outside the country.
Earlier at the event, the Captain of the Club, Prof. Adebayo in the company of Lady Captain Ronke Folami had led the Queen of the late Agura of Gbagura who arrived at the club during the Ceremonial Tee Off, with two princes of the late Agura of Gbagura(Nifemi, and Tobi) and the late monarch’s younger brother,Prince Robert Bakre.
During the event, they all proceeded to plant a Hug Plum tree( Igi Iyeye) at a favourite spot of the late king within the golf course, in honour of the late Kabiesi.
It would be recalled that Abeokuta Golf Club hosted an Open Air Cocktail and Night of Tributes where a special project, being, the Saburee Babajide Golf Pavilion was unveiled on Friday night.
Golfers from different parts of the world paid glowing tributes to the late first class Egba monarch, who is best remembered as a fantastique man for his charity, simplicity, frankness and love for humanity without discrimination on the grounds of class, tribe, age or gender.
