The chairman of National Association of Nigerian Students NANS JCC Ogun Axis, Comrade Damilola Kehinde has told the errand boys of the former governor of Ogun State, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun to stop taking advantage of the protest by the students of Mashood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) to score political points.
Damilola stated this on Tuesday while addressing the Newsmen at the main Entrance of the Institution in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital
You would recall that the students of MAPOLY has embarked on protest since Monday 17th of October, 2022 over the increments of registration fees by the management of the school.
Comr. Damilola also commended the efforts of representative of Ogun state government, Comr. Azeez Adeyemi, the Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on student matters and Hon. Biyi Adeleye who expressed their displeasure over the situation of things in the institution.
He added that, the Special Assistant to governor Prince Dapo Abiodun on student matters, Comr. Adeyemi Azeez and the Commissioner of Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu during today’s protest, expressed the promise of the governor at the Budget Town Hall meeting in Ijebu-Ode yesterday to the protesting students.
He emphasized that, the commitment of the Special Assistant to the governor of Ogun State, Hon. Biyi Adeleye and Comr. Adeyemi Azeez lead to the immediate reversal of the N20,000 Naira registration fee; mandated by the management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY on students.
“It is important to correct the perspective that MAPOLY struggle is not for politicians to take advantage of, it is only ironical that the errand boys of Ex-governor of Ogun state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun are trying to use our genuine struggle to score political points, Whereas, the problem the institution is facing till date was caused by their paymaster, Amosun,” he said.
“We commend the efforts of the Special Assistant to the Governor of Ogun state on Political Matters, Hon. Biyi Adeleye and Comr. Adeyemi Azeez, Special Assistant on student matters, who until late night were both putting efforts to bring lasting solution to our demands, we are very glad to inform the general public that the N20,000 naira registration fee has been reversed with immediate effect and all the students would not have to make this payment again,” he added.
He however, said the institution was shutdown during the tenure of Senator Ibikule Amosun even at the brink of extinction, after trying to replace it with another planned institution to win the heart of Ipokia people to vote for his anointed candidate, Hon. Abdulkabir Akinlade during the last election.
He urged the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun not to relent in the funding of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to maintain its standard as one of the best institution in the country.
He commended the efforts of the National Executives of National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS who joined the students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to get their demands from the management of Ogun state.
