The state Chairman of Poultry Association of Nigeria Ogun state chapter PANOG, Mr. Idowu Asenuga has boasted that, Egg is the most affordable, versatile and natural nutritious food.
Asenuga stated this on Wednesday at the pre-world Egg day Press conference held at the PANOG state Headquarters, Sokori-Owu, Totoro Abeokuta Ogun State capital.
He noted that, the impacts of the theme of 2022 celebration of World Egg day in the human and Nigeria as a whole is highly impressive. And disclosed how the Association is doing all is possible best to have increase in Egg production and let people know the benefit of Egg consumption.
He added that, Nigeria is lacking behind in the production and consumption of Egg among her counterpart countries. He also narrated how Egg can promote the health wise of Nigerians and boost the economy of the country.
“On 14th of October, 2022 PANOG will join the rest of the world to celebrate world’s most affordable, versatile and natural nutritious food and its excellent contribution to the quality of life through its varying amounts of essential Vitamins, Minerals, Protein and healthy fat which makes it a number one choice of Protein in every home.
“The theme for this year’s world Egg day, ‘Egg for a Better Life’ showcases the essence and significance of Egg consumption to human life and National development, which cannot be overemphasized. PANOG therefore, seeks to collaboration with relevant stakeholders in the Nigeria Poultry Industry, both the private and public to increase capacity of Egg production, create more awareness for benefits inherent in Egg consumption among its citizens and encourage them to increase consumption of Egg.
“Nigeria still has a long way to go in the improvement of Egg consumption by her citizens. And any Nation that seeks to grow and develop its economy, must concentrate efforts on activities which will promote the quality of lives of its citizens.
He however, call on the relevant authorities of Government, Non-Governmental Organization, Agricultural Institutions and research centres to provide finance, security, feed grains, adequate infrastructure and other enabling condition which will boost Egg production for Poultry farmers.
The Special Assistant to the Ogun State governor on Agriculture, Dr. Mrs. Angel Adelaja-Kuye congratulated the PANOG and described the Association as a proactive one in the state. She noted how the Ogun State government has been supporting the Association, and promised the continuation of the government support financially and provision of enabling environment
The medical expert from Federal Medical Centre Idiaba, Dr. Nurudeen Gbadamosi explained how nutritious the Egg is and the benefit of it on the both internal and external body of human being.
The Chairman of PANOG for Mowe zone which is the host zone of 2022 World Egg day, Ahaji Olayinka Lawal disclosed the feed meal that Poultry farmers use to feed their chickens. And made the clarification that, there is no harmful substances that will have negative effect on human health in what they use to feed their chickens.
He said “according to the advance knowledge, there are some Hen that can lay without meeting Cock, it depend on nutrients we give our Hen. Both the Local and modern Egg has the same medicinal benefit. We are not producing Egg with any artificial things and we don’t give them anything related to chemical substances, but by the food we give them; such as Maize, Soya, Wheat, Kulikuli. We give our chicken balance diet like human being.
Ogun state has Ten Millions of chickens out of Fifty Millions in Nigeria and that is why Ogun state is called the Poultry Basket of the Nation. The Farm price of Egg is 1,700-1,900. And we are not happy with the amount but there is nothing we can do. It is not our fault, it the high price of what we buy to feed our chickens.
