The senator representing Lagos-West and the senator-elect for Ogun-West senatorial district at the National Assembly, Sen. Solomon Olamilekan also known as Yayi has advised Nigeria politicians that it is good to have been a Senator before becoming a governor of a state.
Sen. Yayi gave this advise on Saturday in his farewell speech during a Valedictory Session of the 9th Senate of Federal Republic of Nigeria at Senate House Abuja.
He noted that, he has been a law maker for the past 20year from Lagos State House of Assembly to Federal House of Reps and serving second term as senator of Lagos-west which another 4years would be added to it after serving people of Ogun-West in the next dispensation, stressing that, been a Senator will give opportunity to know more about individual state and the country (Nigeria).
He boasted that, the 9th Senate has laid a significant legacy in the achievement of January-December Year cycle of Nigeria full Budget.
“Today, senators are controlling this Country at all levels; it is not by power but because like my colleague has said, it is good to be first and foremost become a Senator before aspiring to be a governor. This is a beautiful foundation for you not only to know your state but to know Nigeria as a whole before aspiring for governor of the state. And that is why after been a governor, they want be a Senator and have never saw a governor who want to be a member of House of Reps but a Senator; that shows the important of this chamber”.
“Today i signed as Senator representing Lagos West and on Tuesday i will sign as Senator representing Ogun west. I thank Almighty God who made it possible for me because it is not by power, strength but by the grace of God and i am not taking that for granted”.
“Lagos State has been fair to me. 20 years of my life I’ve been in this legislative business; having served Two term as member state House of Assembly, Member House of Representatives and Two term senator of Lagos West senatorial district. And at the time I’m done in the next 4years as Ogun west Senator, i will have spent 24years,” he said.
“If there is nothing that will be attributed as achievement of this 9th Senate, i will say a singular honour of ensuring that we have one year full Budget cycle; this is an achievement and I’m happy to be part of this Legacy”.
