As one of his legislative functions to take dividend of Democracy to his constituents, the honorable representing Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency of Kwara state at the 10th National Assembly, Hon. Muktar Tolani Shagaya has Sponsored his first bill at the floor of the House.

Shagaya made this known to the public through his official social media handle on Tuesday 18th of July, 2023.

According to him “today, i successfully sponsored my first bill in the 10th House of Representatives. The bill in question is titled the “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) (Alteration) Bill 2023″ (HB. 115), aimed at amending the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). Its primary objective is to confer jurisdiction on the Federal High Court to handle and prosecute electoral offenders,” he said.

“Once this bill is enacted into law, it will serve as a crucial step towards cost savings for the government and ensuring that electoral offenders have nowhere to hide and are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. By entrusting the Federal High Court with the responsibility of adjudicating such cases instead of relying solely on the high courts of the 36 states and FCT, we will create a more streamlined and efficient process for addressing electoral offenses,” he added.

“I would like to reiterate my unwavering commitment to promoting good governance and upholding the integrity of our democratic system. Through this bill and future endeavors, I aim to foster transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in our electoral processes,” he concluded.
