A solidarity within the Ogun State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), DA LEGACY group, has condemned the nationwide protest planned by some faceless individuals for August 1st – 10th, 2024.
The group which supports the administration and politics of Governor Dapo Abiodun, while rising from the July edition of its monthly meeting held in Iperu Remo yesterday, urged citizens and residents of Ogun State to shun the proposed protest totally in the interest of peace and democracy.
Recapping the resolution DA LEGACY, the coordinator, Hon. Biyi Adeleye, who was flanked by Hon. Dapo Odunsi, Hon. Jubril Olasile Odulate and Hon. Segun Ogunleye, council chairmen of Remo North LGA, Sagamu LGA and Ikenne LGA respectively, said the government of Ogun State has done a lot to alleviate the impact of the current economic situation on the people of the state.
“And our governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun is not stopping just yet. He has many other plans for us the citizens. The federal government too has plans to make sure things get better. We do not think this is the time for us to encourage any form of violence or civil disturbance. So, we condemn the proposed nationwide protest and urge the good people of our state to shun it,” he said.
Recalling the pains, suffering and losses witnessed during the END SARS protest a few years ago, Adeleye added that Ogun State , and in fact the whole of if the country cannot afford another wanton destruction of public facilities in the name of protest.
“We are daily calling on government to do more in the area of public infrastructure, we cannot support some misguided few to destroy the ones we have. We plead that we continue to be patient with our leaders as we can confidently inform that Prince Dapo Abiodun feels the pains of the people of Ogun State and he is desirous of doing everything possible to ease their sufferings.
The group applauded Governor Abiodun’s efforts which include improved security operations and surveillance across the state, unending palliatives for indigent citizens and workers, numerous road projects, educational supports, health programs and numerous other measures put in place to cushion the effect of the economic and general hardship, as well as being dividends to the people.
According to leaders of the DA LEGACY group, the many efforts of government at both state and federal levels will soon yield the desired results if given more time. They called on Nigerians, especially youths not to join the planned protest as the people behind it mean nothing good for the country.
“Accordingly, we urge the good people of Ogun State to go about their daily activities peacefully and continue to have faith in the current leadership. This is what will ensure that the better days we are all yearning for come speedily,” Adeleye added.
The group which warned against violence and urged more dialogue and engagement between the governments and the people said even those agitating for protest cannot vouch that it will be peaceful as nobody can predict how a public protest of that nature will turn out. The group then urged security agencies across the State to be more proactive and professional in discharging their duties during these crucial periods as the safety of the people of Ogun State and their properties should not be toyed with under any circumstances
