The Ogun State Chapter of the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters’ Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) has announced a 13-day countdown to the 2026 World Radio Day celebration, starting on Sunday, 1 February, and culminating in a grand finale on 13 February at the NUT Hall, Kuto, Abeokuta.
A statement jointly signed by Comrade Moses Okunlola, General Secretary and Comrade Olusoji Akindiya (Okanlomo), Publicity Secretary, Ogun FIBAN disclosed that the theme for this year’s celebration, “Radio and Artificial Intelligence,” underscores the evolving role of radio in an increasingly digital age. FIBAN said the countdown, promoted across social media platforms, community networks, and radio stations in the state, aims to raise public awareness and encourage professional engagement around radio’s relevance, ethical journalism, and the responsible integration of emerging technologies.
During the 13-day campaign, daily on-air discussions and specially designed graphics will explore issues such as radio’s evolution, youth and women participation in broadcasting, community engagement, and the ways artificial intelligence can support — but not replace — human editorial judgment.
The grand finale will feature Mr. Eze Anaba, President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, as keynote speaker. His address will focus on credibility, innovation, and media responsibility in the AI era.
