…Wants Adebutu To Present Self For Prosecution
A youth group in Ogun Central senatorial district, Egba L’okan Youth Movement 2027, has slammed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, for calling on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to compel the police command in the state to release report of investigation on allegation of vote-buying against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The state chairman of the PDP, Sikirulahi Ogundele, at a press conference on Monday, had called on the IG to ensure police report of the party’s petition of vote-buying and electoral violence of the APC during March 18 governorship election, is submitted to the appropriate quarters.
Ogundele equally accused the APC and the governor for making clandestine moves to subvert the police investigations by mounting untold pressure and threatening the state police command to suppress the findings of investigation ordered by the immediate past IG, Usman Baba.
The Ogun PDP chairman, however, threatened that the party would petition the IG, if the Ogun police command fails to submit an unadulterated report in the next 72 hours.
But, the group, in a statement by its Coordinator, Idowu Saheed Olusegun, on Wednesday, described the PDP’s outburst as “medicine after death”.
Olusegun added that the PDP can’t be the petitioner and the judge at the same time, berating the leadership of the party of crying wolf where there is none.
He wondered why the party waited till his “failed gubernatorial candidate” and others were arraigned before the court for vote-buying, to write his own petition and even coercing the police to release the outcome of their investigation.
The group pointed out that rather for the embattled candidate of the opposition party to present himself for prosecution, he shunned police invitations and fled the country, leaving his supporters to lick their wounds alone, stressing that “demanding for a report of investigation from the same police is tantamount to double standard”.
While urging the leadership of the ruling party in the state, not to be bogged down by the spurious allegations and feeble attempts by the PDP to cover the electoral frauds it perpetrated during the governorship poll in the state, the group declared all intrigues to blackmail the police in the matter would fail.
Olusegun, who expressed worries that it was the PDP members and agents were nabbed with credit cards preloaded with N10,000 by men and officers of the Nigerian Police, NDLEA and EFCC, on the election day, noted that the sudden demand for the release of police report on a spurious petition, calls for vigilance and scrutiny.
The group, therefore, urged the opposition party to stop chasing shadows and wake up to reality that the APC and Governor Abiodun were voted for massively by the people of Ogun State on March 18.
