The Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) Ogun state chapter has urged the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to fulfil all the promises he previously made to them and also congratulate him on his recent victory at Supreme Court.
The Association made this appeal on Saturday at it strategic planning meeting for 2024 held at the Association Secretariat, Abeokuta, the state capital.
The State Chairman of the Association, Dr. Michael Ebohor while reminding the state governor of his promise also charged the public to relate with his members in accordance with the law having passed by the former governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun.
According to Dr. Ebohor “Your Excellency, we want to use this occasion to remind you of your promise to mobility for this Association and effective slots for persons with disabilities in all employment ehncefort.
We want to use this occasion to implore both private and public organizations to make their offices in compliance to provision of this act by providing wheel chair, sign language interpreter at hospitals, schools and various places in order to bridge communication gap. And we also demand the full implementation of Ogun state special people act signed in 2017 by the former governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun.
We want to congratulate Gov. Dapo Abiodun on your victory at supreme Court. It shows that God has destined you to have the second term without any restriction with the voice of the Supreme Court.
Now, good governance is what we demand for, good government is what we ask for, most especially for us persons with disabilities in Ogun state. We want to use this occasion to congratulate you and also remind you of the promise of good governance and inclusion of persons with disabilities in your government in appointing capacity.
And to this event, we want to use this occasion to remind the government and the good people of Ogun state that with the law prohibiting discrimination against persons with disabilities in Nigeria having passed Five years ago, we demand the provision of the law in Ogun state, such as making public offices and public institutions accessible for persons with disabilities. In terms of Education, Health and Employment.
This act has been signed in December 27, 2017 but till this moment the law has not seen the light of the day, but we are not discourage. We are trying to re-energize ourselves to form a collaboration with the Committee for the Defense of Human Right (CDHR).
He however On behalf of persons with abilities of Ogun state, pledged their 100% loyalty to Dapo Abiodun led administration, and which his government many blessings and prosperities.
In his speech, the National Vice-President of Committee for the Defense of Human Right, Comr. Yinka Folarin also revealed that the implementation for the persons with Disabilities law has been signed by the former governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun but there are so many dramas around the law.
He assured the Association that the law will be revisit and government must do the needful, noting that they are going to engage the government to ask them questions.
Also, one of the members of the Association, Mr. Adebesin Abacha remind the governor about the bus the he promised the association during the visit to his house in Remo, and the special adviser on Disability matter he promised on the same day, which he described as important matters, noting that the governor has fulfilled his promise to other able Associations.
He however, enjoined the members to speak in one voice when requesting for anything from government so that the government will take the Association serious.
