The Nigeria Union of Pensioner, Ogun State Council, has commended the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for the implementation on the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in the state.
In a letter titled, “Appreciation On CPS Implementation”, addressed to Governor Abiodun and signed by the Council State Chairman, Comrade Waheed Oloyede, expressed appreciation for the payment of accrued gratuities up to 2019, describing it as a relief to those who has served the state selflessly.
He also added that, the implementation of the full of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), which will take effect from July 2, 2025, noting that it aligns with global best practices and guarantees future retirement benefits.
The Pensioners, further also applauded the approval of palliative provisions for retirees who left service from July 2, 2025, to ensure they are not negatively affected by the transition to the new pension scheme.
While also expressing the achievements, the Union also appealed to Governor Abiodun to ensure the approval of the Consequential Adjustment of Pensions in line with the 2019 Federal Government Circular, as well as the inclusion of retirees from tertiary institutions in the CPS.
“However, we respectfully appeal to you, for your kind hearted approval of the long and much awaited Consequential Review of Pensions of the long standing Pensioners in line with the 2019 Federal Government Circular on Consequential Adjustments of Pensioners.
“Your benevolent approval will further enhance the purchasing abilities of the affected pensioners, who’s present earning cannot feed them, talk less of the procurements of required drugs for the various health challenges ravaging the elderly. The approval will strengthen the security and dignity of such pensioners in Ogun State”, It reads
The Union, however pledged to support and collaborate with the administration with a view to enhance greater progressive development in Ogun State and to ensure that pensioners live with dignity and peace of mind in the state.
