The Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun State at the 2023 general elections, Asiwaju (Engr) Tony Ojeshina has appealed to all stakeholders in the state to rally round and save the state from the Iron Fist of the incumbent governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday and made available to the newsmen in Abeokuta, the State capital.
He saluted the courageous step been taken by the chairman of Ijebu-East Local government, Hon. Wale Adedayo for exposing the state of 20 Local governments in the state to the public by writing a petition letter against the state governor.
He condemned the alleged politicking step been taken by the councillors in Ijebu-East local government on the chairman.
He described the pleading by the remaining local government chairmen to the state governor as a disgrace to the political office and the people of the local government. Also expressed his displeasure over how the security agents stormed the headquarters of the local government in a bid to arrest the erring chairman.
“The present crisis was triggered when Adedayo wrote a highly emotive and scathing appeal to the ex-Governor of the State and foremost APC leader Aremo Olusegun Osoba. In the letter, the Ijebu East Chairman detailed how the State Government has appropriated billons of naira monthly allocations due to Local Administrations in the state. He painted a sad picture of how the third tier of governance has been totally paralyzed as a result of the greed of the governor of the state”.
“Also in a despicable style of politicking the councilors in the local government, mysteriously raised financial allegations against the chairman, suspended him and apparently kickstarting a process of imminent impeachment. Rather than being cowed and subdued, Wale Adedayo became more deviant and more daring. He berated his colleagues for daring to go and prostrate to the state governor”.
“In a turn of events, other local government chairmen in the state proceeded to prostrate before Governor Abiodun and pleaded for forgiveness for their ‘misguided’ colleague. Shamefully, the state government leaked the pictures and videos of the prostrating chairmen to the press. While people were expecting good counsel and crisis management to prevail, security agents stormed the headquarters of Ijebu East local government in a bid to arrest the erring chairman”.
He however called on the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Elder Statesmen, political leaders across party lines, ex and current political office holders, community leaders, traditional rulers, local government staff and operatives, artisan, student bodies, NGO and the generality of the people of the state to stand up to be counted as Ogun State descends into a state of anomie.
Ojeshina, a former state commissioner in the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel who is also leading a coalition of 10 political parties in Ogun state supporting Ladi Adebutu to recover his stolen mandate, assures that no matter how much bullying by security agencies and political thuggery, the issue of the rape of local government in Ogun State will not be wished away.
