…Pledges To Liaise With 10th Assembly For Provisions of Laptops
The Senator Representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Sen. Shuaib Afolabi Salisu has had a stakeholders critical meeting with Ogun Journalists and approved the request of SAS Media Award.
Sen. Salisu, who pledged to put efforts at the 10th Assembly for the approval of laptops for journalists in Ogun State.
He also assured Ogun NUJ that he would remind the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun of his promises toward the renovations of the Union’s secretariate and provision of the journalist’s estate respectively.
Salisu pointed out that, it is pertinent that the Ogun State NUJ Council and its members enjoy their practices, adding that as journalists they have much of responsibilities.
He boasted that he proud the State he came from where he was elected as a Senator to serve, (Ogun State) is the cradle of journalism, adding that he is proud to be an associate member of the Union.
While appreciating the support of the Union during his aspirations in last year Elections, he maintained that it is pertinent for him to start his critical stakeholders meeting with the journalists first in the State before engaging with other stakeholders.
According to Sen. Salisu “On the SAS media award for outstanding journalists during press week, i hereby support the motion”.
“Also, whether this place is outdated or not, this place needs to have maximum power, I’m here as a Senator of journalists because this Iwe-Iroyin is the cradle of journalism in Nigeria where the first Newpaper was published in 1859 and named as ‘Iwe Iroyin Fun Awon Ara Egba, and has produced two elected governor of this state, which is Late Olabisi Onabanjo and my own Baba, the Akinrogun of Egba land, Chief Olusegun Osoba, I here by approve the provision of Solar power to this place”.
“On the third request, I don’t want a situation whereby, “ao ni ri eje, ao ni ri omira” I will tender the request to the legislative, and forward it to necessary committee and see what could be done to ensure that there is perfection and by the grace of God, we would see what we can do about it”.
“I have come here today to visit the NUJ of Ogun State Council as one of the critical stakeholders in the state, I take note of your three demands from Mr. Governor, judiciously and journalistically, and informatively and I will find time and talk to him”.
Meanwhile, State chairman of the Union, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju appreciated the presence of the present of the senator, demanding for welfarism support for journalists in the State.
Olanrewaju also recalled that during the visit of Governor Abiodun to the council he promised to renovate the council hall and assured the approval of the journalists’ estate for the council which is yet to see the light of the day.
He however, appealed to Sen. Salisu to speak with the governor on behalf of the Union, so all his promises could be fulfilled.
