A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Fausat Asakun Omoniyi Memorial Foundation, has put smiles on the faces of parents and students of three secondary schools in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state as it paid fees for their National Examination Council (NECO.
The three secondary schools that benefited from the philanthropic gesture of the Foundation are Obalaju High School in Joga-Orile, Eyinni Comprehensive College, Iboro and Adokun High School, Igan Okoto.
Presenting the cheques totalling N5m to principals of the respective schools, promoter of the Foundation, Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, the Ogun State Commissioner for Housing, explained that the Foundation established in memory of her late mother decided to pay the NECO fees to provide succour for the parents of the students and help them to cushion the effects of the current economic situation in the country.
Represented by his Personal Assistant, Adesola Adeyemi, he noted that the gesture would go a long way to ease the financial burden of the parents, while it would also encourage the beneficiaries to prepare for the final senior secondary school examination.
The Foundation promoter said that he was aware of the struggle parents in his local government go through to pay for their children’s NECO fees since the immediate past administration stopped the payment, adding that the gesture was just a little way to ease the burden on the parents.
While urging the students to study hard in order to ace the external exams, the Commissioner reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to offer support and provide education support to students and espouse programmes capable of enhancing youth development in Yewa North Local Government Area.
He commended the parents of the students, principals and teachers of the three secondary schools, submitting that Fausat Asakun Omoniyi Memorial Foundation would continue to support education development targeted at making life better for students and the youths.
Responding on behalf of the principals, the Principal of Obalaju High School, Joga Orile, Mrs. Ademola Yusuf, thanked the Foundation for coming to the aid of the students, declaring that the gesture would go in no small measures to help them and their parents.
On their parts, Imam Sulaiman, Reverend Ayo Elegbede and Chief Jamiu Oke, parents of students of Obalaju High School, Eyinni Comprehensive College and Adokun High School, respectively, expressed their delight and commended the promoter of the Foundation for using it to lighten their financial burden by paying the NECO fees of their children.
They, however, called on similar humanitarian organizations to take a cue from the Foundation, submitting that such support is needed to help the downtrodden in their pursuit of education.
